Bulk Billed Walk in Repeat Prescription Clinic

We now provide an alternative to ordering your repeat scripts over the phone. Attend the clinic Monday - Friday between 8:15 and 8:45 am for a repeat prescription only bulk billed consultation. No appointment necessary. Please note the patient themselves must be in attendance for these appointments.

Patients should be reviewed by their regular GP at least 6 monthly for some conditions. Please see one of our reception staff for more details.

Bulk Billed Paediatric Walk in Clinics

Hawkins Medical Clinic provides a Monday to Friday walk in service for any Hawkins patient under the age of five with a recent illness such as:

  • fever
  • rash
  • cough
  • sore throat
  • earache

All you need to do is come into the clinic between 11.00am and 11.30am Monday to Friday and your child will be seen. Upon arrival report to the northern reception area at the nurse’s station to have your child’s details checked and attendance recorded. There is no need to phone to make an appointment. All walk in paediatric patients are bulk billed.

Our aim is to provide a simple way to get help for your child and any necessary follow up completed without the need to book an appointment.

Childhood Immunisation Clinics

Childhood immunisation clinics are held each week to assist parents to meet the required timeframe for their child’s immunisation needs.

Patients can attend the immunisation clinic if appointments with their regular doctor are difficult to get at the appropriate time. These clinics occur on Monday evenings and Wednesday afternoons and are bulk billed. Parents are encouraged to complete the billing beforehand allowing them to look after their child following the immunisation. Please remember to bring your child’s blue book or immunisation records with you.

For catch-up immunisations we recommend you book a standard consultation with your usual GP.

Antenatal Clinics

Hawkins Medical Clinic runs an antenatal clinic from our branch clinic in Ferrers Street.

Our experienced midwives consult every Friday sharing antenatal care with our doctors during the pregnancy.

Patients referred to our midwives service typically alternate visits with the GP and the midwife who will perform the same checks as your doctor and will consult promptly with your doctor in case of concerns.

The midwives provide a great insight into the journey you will undertake through to the birth of your child in hospital.

The costs to see the midwife are the same as it would have been to see your doctor.

Skin Check Clinics

A Special Skin Check clinic operates weekly within Hawkins Medical Clinic. Dr Mike Bruorton has an interest in dermatology and provides this service each Wednesday.

Patients undergo a full body skin check during the appointment (no make up to be worn) and will need to remove outer clothing, leaving underwear on.

Pigmented lesions of concern will be checked and if necessary scanned. Cryotherapy is offered for sun spots. Treatment of suspicious lesions by a subsequent excision appointment or referral to specialists may occur if required.

This service is only available to patients older than 10 years (unless they have had skin checks previously). Patients aged 10 to 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.

INR clinics

The Hawkins Medical Clinic uses Australian Clinical Labs (formerly HealthScope) to perform INR testing within the clinic. This system provides the doctor with an instant result to manage your warfarin dose. Your doctor may refer you to one of these INR clinics when your Warfarin medication is stable. This is particularly beneficial for elderly patients and reduces confusion if medication intake needs to change.

Chronic Disease Management

Hawkins Medical Clinic has a number of staff trained in Chronic Disease Management education, in particular diabetes, heart disease and asthma.

Appointments are currently offered at our branch clinic (Hawkins@Pinehall) at 10-12 Pinehall Avenue, Mount Gambier.

Our staff will explain how you can help to control or minimise the effects of your medical condition and will prepare a draft management plan for your doctor. You will subsequently see your doctor who will discuss your condition and the management plan. You will be provided with a copy to keep with you for your records.

Where other providers are involved with your medical care your doctor may seek your consent to send them a copy of your management plan encouraging them to participate in a team care arrangement.

Cervical Screening Test (Pap Smear) Clinics

Hawkins Medical Clinic has two nurses that are trained in administering Cervical Screening Tests. Your doctor may offer the alternative of seeing one of these nurses for your regular cervical screening test. The results of these tests are viewed by your doctor and any follow up required is the responsibility of your doctor.

Specific Cervical Screening Test (Pap Smear) clinics are held each week.

Patients requesting an appointment with a nurse will require confirmation by their regular doctor that a referral to a nurse is appropriate for the individual patient.

Patients are charged the same gap for a nurse cervical screening test as would apply to see their regular doctor.

Seasonal Flu Clinics

Hawkins Medical Clinic hold annual flu vaccination clinics. These clinics usually commence around April depending on our flu vaccine supply. Flu clinics are bulk billed- all we ask is that you pay for the vaccination. You can book into a flu clinic by phoning Hawkins on 87255266. Each year the commencement date varies slightly so stay tuned on Facebook, Twitter or our News page as we will announce when the flu clinics will begin on these forums.
